All coloured pencil drawings are original and hand-drawn and created by using multiple layers of coloured pencil. Each piece is finished with a UV Archival Spray after each layer of coloured pencil which protects it from sun exposure and smudging. All drawings are ready to hang.
This drawing came to fruition in the early weeks of the pandemic. I was thinking about the actions we do when we first arrive home. We hang up our jackets, take off our shoes and place our bags down. This familiar action of ridding ourselves of our belongings seemed metaphorical. These little pieces of hanging fabric are metaphors for leaving something behind, hanging up the stresses of our day, and continuing about our evening in the comfort of our home.
Our home is a personal reflection of ourselves. It’s our safe space, where we can shed the weight of the world and just be ourselves. Little did I know this sentiment of safety would be even more pertinent throughout the pandemic.
Although it was unusual to spend so much time alone in our homes, we were lucky to be able to do so. Even when the world reopened its doors, our home remained our personal safe haven to just “leave them here”.
